AGEING AS GOOD NEWS: EXPLORING THE CHURCH’S ROLE IN DEMENTIA PREVENTION

Ageing is often seen as a period of loss of health, vitality, and connection. Yet, research shows that growing older can also be a time of resilience and renewal.

The Jurong Ageing Study, the first of its kind in Asia, demonstrated that community-based programmes can reduce depression and dementia among seniors. Its success gave rise to the Age Well Everyday (AWE) initiative, now active in 15 centres across Singapore, helping seniors live with greater purpose and well-being.

Can the Church play a part in this “good news” story?

Anyone interested in wholistic senior ministry is welcome to attend this talk, whether you are a Pastor, ministry worker, caregiver or simply an individual who wishes to learn more.

Join Emeritus Professor Kua Ee Heok as he shares how faith communities can help older adults age well – in body, mind and spirit.

About the speaker

Emeritus Professor Kua Ee Heok is a senior consultant psychiatrist and former CEO of Singapore’s Institute of Mental Health.

A graduate of the University of Malaya and Oxford University, he has dedicated his career to advancing mental health and dementia prevention among older adults. He founded Singapore’s first memory clinic and the Jurong Ageing Study, which inspired the Age Well Everyday (AWE) movement.

A prolific author and educator, Prof Kua continues to champion holistic ageing — integrating body, mind and spirit for lifelong well-being.
